About Colette Peters

Hi, I am Colette Peters and a life long Alaskan. I grew up in Southeast Alaska in the island community of Ketchikan with 42 miles of road and the Tongass National Forest as my backyard. I spent my younger years playing outside rain or shine and enjoying family and friend camping trips. Growing up family vacations included traveling around Alaska including trips to Wrangell St. Elias National Park, Denali Base Camp & Talketna, Nome, the Kenai Peninsula and other camping trips closer to her home in Southeast Alaska. It instilled a deep love for Alaska in me and a sense of adventure.

I love getting outside whether that be hiking and backpacking, boats rides or kayaking, wandering city streets, or just cozying up in a cabin in the wild. I spent several years working as a deckhand on commercial fishing and got to explore wild places in my free time. I also spent years working for a seafood processing company traveling to remote villages around Alaska and getting to see places not many have the chance to visit. Every time I explore more of Alaska it has made me appreciate the state I call home more and more. Although I have spent time living outside Alaska in Washington, California and a short amount of time in Copenhagen, Denmark, I have always considered Alaska my home. I now reside full time in a small island community about a 100 miles north of where I grew up in a town called Petersburg. I spend as much of my free time exploring and in the outdoors as possible with my doodle Gordon by my side. Whether it is an easy walk in the muskegs behind my house, hiking a nearby mountain, or visiting a nearby cabin, I have a deep affection for the natural beauty of Alaska. I love sharing the incredible beauty of my home and life in the Last Frontier, it is truly wild and beautiful on level seen few other places in the world. I hope my page inspires people to visit this amazing state and get to some of the more off the beaten path places.

Besides growing up with a deep appreciation and desire to explore the area around my home, my sense of adventure and curiosity has taken me all over the world. I have traveled to over 20 countries and try to incorporate a solid mix of hiking, other outdoor adventures, cultural experiences and some relaxing in luxury in my travels. I have completed some of best backpacking trips in the world including the O circuit in Torres del Paine National Park Chile, the Annapurna and Manaslu Circuits in Nepal, numerous backpacking trips throughout the Pacific Northwest in the US, and camped below Mount Fitz Roy in Argentina. I’ve also summitted volcanoes in Chile, explored some of the US National Parks in their off seasons, spent countless nights in cozy Forest Service cabins in Southeast Alaska, hiked to temples in Thailand, and swam in waterfalls in Laos. My travels have also taught me about taking a step back in time as I walked the Great Wall of China, explored Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley in Peru, wandered through Mayan Ruins on the Yucatan Peninsula, learned about The Roman Empire on the streets of Italy, visited old Viking ships in Sweden and Denmark, strolled through ancient kingdoms in Nepal, and spent days wandering temples in Thailand. I’ve also spent time relaxing in hot springs in Alaska, New Mexico, the Azores, Costa Rica, and Nepal. Then I lived in up in a five star hotel in Dubai, had drinks of some of the best rooftops in Singapore, ate an incredible dinner at the Ritz Carlton in Shanghai, dined in Michelin rated restaurants, and gone wine tasting in several countries. I love travel with a big dose of adventure, rich in culture, and a nice mix of class. The best kind of trip incorporates a little bit of everything.

“I travel because it makes me realize how much I haven’t seen, how much I am not going to see, and how much I still need to see”
