A Review of Hotel Mystic Mountain
A beautiful and relaxing hotel in the hills of the Kathmandu Valley with absolutely spectacular Himalaya views
The Hotel Mystic Mountain is located in Nagarkot, Nepal, which is a small town in the hills in the Kathmandu Valley aboe the city. It is known for its spectacular sunrises and views of several of the Himalaya ranges. It is about an hour drive from Thamel and just a super relaxed place where you can enjoy the moutains without having to hike to them.
Every room at the hotel has a window and balcony facing the mountains, so you do not have to worry that you will not get a view. The bed faces the windows so you can watch the sunrise light up the Himalayas from your warm bed. The rooms are spacious and clean and cost a little over a $100 USD a night, which is a little expensive for Nepal, but the beautiful hotel and spectacular view are worth it.
The hotel has nice terraced gardens you can walk around in as well as an infinity pool and hot tub to make you feel like you are swimming to the mountains. It makes the hotel a great place to come and relax after a long trek or even just a few overwhelming days inside the city. You don’t need to keep youself too busy you can hang out in your room reading and enjoying the view, spend time in the pool, do a short walk around the gardens, or take in the view from the restaurant deck.
There is a cafe and restaurant on site and they have room service. Breakfast also typically comes with your stay there, which is a buffet with lots of English and Nepali options. It is not gourmet food, but it is good and they have a large variety. For dinner you can get the buffet, order a la carte, or they have hot pot. Most people only spend one or two nights in Nagarkot, so you won’t feel like you are running out of options in your short stay. With the restaurant located on the top floor of the hotel, the view is absolutely unbeatable. They also serve lunch on a lower deck closer to the pool, which still has a great view.
Nagarkot is a small town, where the main reason for its fame is simply the view. It is not a place with an endless number of things to do, but there are some great hiking opportunities. There is a view tower you can hike to see views of the Himalayas, which your best chance is at sunrise or in the morning before the clouds move in. You can also just wander through the village checking out the local farms. It is also part of a larger hike through the Kathmandu Valley and you can hike down to Bhaktapur from Nagarkot or continue along the hills to Dhulikhel, another Kathmandu Valley town becoming well known for its incredible views. A guide met us at the end of our stay and we hiked with him part of the way to our next hotel in Bhaktapur. It was a super fun way to move to our next destination.
